Continuous Cover Forestry

Enfor Ltd is actively involved in the promotion and practice of Continuous Cover Forestry, CCF.

CCF is an alternative forestry management system that does not involve clearfelling of the trees and instead canopy cover is maintained at all times. Forest management uses natural woodland processes to develop a forest that is capable of naturally regenerating itself.

Clearfell system

The attractiveness of the clearfell system is that it yields a large sum of money when the site is felled. However, one of the main issues for a forest owner with conventional clearfell systems is the costs involved with replanting and maintaining a site after it is cleared. At this stage there is no grant aid available. There can be considerable costs associated with:selection_forest_diagram

  • Ground preparation and brash clearance

  • Planting

  • Weed, briar and gorse control

  • Spraying for pine weevil

No timber revenue for 16 – 20 years after the replanting phase.
